RedHawks Sign OF Patrick O'Donnell

01/08/2018 5:07 PM -

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks annouce the signing of outfielder Patrick O'Donnell to the 2018 roster. A native of Andover, MN, O'Donnell is a senior at Augustana University with a major in Business Administration.

"It's truly a blessing to be able to continue my baseball career," O'Donnell stated about signing with the RedHawks. "There have been many people that have been instrumental in getting me to where I am. I haven't done this alone. The RedHawks are a great organization in a great league and I look forward to putting on the new uniform and getting started."

“We’re excited to bring in an quality rookie player like Patrick that has a chance to make an impact for us," said RedHawks Manager Michael Schlact. "We did our homework on Patrick, and besides having a record setting college career, he’s a high character person as well, which fits nicely into the direction we’re headed. Schlact added "Being from the region, he knows the style of play & the expectations that come with wearing the RedHawks uniform. We couldn’t be happier to have him on board for 2018."

O'Donnell left Augustana as the school record holder in career batting average (.426), the 2017 NSIC Player of the Year, a two-time All-American, three-time All-NSIC performer, a two-time All-Region honoree and a Tino Martinez Award Semifinalist (DII Player of the Year) in 2016. O'Donnell also finished in the top-10 in Augustana history in slugging pct. (second), on base pct. (third), hits (third), doubles (third), total bases (third), runs scored (fourth), triples (fifth), home runs (sixth) and RBI (eighth).

"Patrick has worked as hard as just about any guy I have coached," head baseball coach Tim Huber said of O'Donnell. "For someone who didn't even start playing for us until his third year of college, signing a professional contract is quite an accomplishment. Being national batting average champ junior year, to Player of the Year last spring in our conference, Patrick has proven he can hit. Patrick has come a long way and it is a testament to him and the work he put in. Fargo is in a very good pro league and a great opportunity."

O'Donnell finished his Viking career with a batting average of .426 in 164 games (144 starts) and 238 hits, 163 runs scored, 53 doubles, 27 home runs and 125 RBI. O'Donnell holds the Augustana single season records in batting average (.468-2016), slugging pct. (.761-2016), games played and started (59-2017), hits (102-2016) and total bases (166-2016).
