The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks dropped to 1-3 on the season after falling to the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, MB.
Winnipeg designated hitter Luis Alen had a memorable day, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, driving in the eventual winning run in the third inning. Also coming through for the Goldeyes was Price Kendall, who hit a walk-off single to win the second of a doubleheader against Fargo last night, and punched through another late-game single in the eighth inning Sunday to give Winnipeg a 5-2 cushion.
Fargo-Moorhead’s Jesse Hoorelbeke drilled his first home run of the season, a solo shot, in the second inning. Phil Britton also had a pair of hits and drove in a run.
The winning pitcher for Winnipeg was Chris Salamida, who gave the team five strong innings, giving up two hits and two runs, while striking out six. RedHawks starter Zach Ward took the loss. Winnipeg’s Jamie Vermilyea recorded his second save of the season in the win.
