REDHAWKS ANNOUNCE 2012 SCHEDULE
Ten Different Opponents Highlight 50-Game Home Slate
FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks’ 2012 schedule will feature ten different home opponents, travel to Texas and a foray into interleague play as the team enters its second season in the American Association.
The RedHawks will make a first-ever trip to Texas to start the season. Fargo-Moorhead will play a season-opening four-game series against the El Paso Diablos on May 17 before moving on to face the Amarillo Sox in a three-game series.
The 2012 Home Opener will be Friday, May 25 at 7:02 p.m. against the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Post-game fireworks will cap off the evening. The six-game homestand will also feature a three-game series with the Wichita Wingnuts. The series with Wichita will include a School Day Game for kids on Tuesday, May 29 with an 11:00 a.m. start.
“The 2012 schedule is very exciting,” said RedHawks General Manager Josh Buchholz. “We have an impressive variety of teams coming to Newman Outdoor Field, we are working very hard to improve over last year’s on-field performance and our staff will be filling the promotions schedule over the winter to make it another great summer of RedHawks Baseball.”
The RedHawks will get their first crack at interleague play in August, as the Rockland (N.Y.) Boulders of the Can-Am League pay a visit to Newman Outdoor Field from August 17-19 for a three-game series.
Fargo-Moorhead will be home for seven weekends during the summer, five of which will feature a night of post-game fireworks. The five fireworks nights are scheduled for: Friday, May 25 vs. Sioux Falls (Home Opener); Friday, June 29 vs. St. Paul; Saturday, July 7 vs. Kansas City; Friday, August 3 vs. Lincoln and Friday, August 31 vs. Laredo (Fan Appreciation Night).
Three of the ever-popular Business Day Games are on the schedule for 2012, all on Thursdays. The Business Day Games are scheduled for: June 28 vs. Lincoln; July 26 vs. Sioux Falls and August 16 vs. Winnipeg.
As previously stated, the RedHawks will host ten different opponents in 2012 at Newman Outdoor Field. The Grand Prairie AirHogs, the Laredo Lemurs and Rockland will each make their first-ever visit to Fargo. Grand Prairie won the 2011 American Association Championship, while Laredo is a new addition to the league in 2012.
The RedHawks will close the regular season over Labor Day weekend with a three-game series at Winnipeg’s Shaw Park against their arch-rival, the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The American Association will operate as a 13-team league in 2012. The schedule will be a 100-game, full-season format with the three division winners and one wild card team making the playoffs.
Standard game times in 2012 remain unchanged. First Pitch for Monday-Friday games will be at 7:02 p.m. Saturday games will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday games are set for 1:00 p.m. Exceptions to these time are: May 28 (6:00 p.m.); May 29 (11:00 a.m.); June 28 (12:30 p.m.); July 7 (7:02 p.m.); July 26 (12:30 p.m.) and August 16 (12:30 p.m.). 2012 marks the 4th season that 702 Communications of Moorhead has sponsored the RedHawks 7:02 p.m. start times.
