RedHawks Hammer Saltdogs, Sweep Series

06/28/2012 5:48 PM -

The Fargo-Moorhead lineup combined for 20 hits as the RedHawks completed a three-game series sweep of the Lincoln Saltdogs with a 12-4 victory at Newman Outdoor Field on June 28, 2012.

Nic Jackson batted 4-for-5 with two runs, Ryan Delgado went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, and Jon Gaston was 2-for-5 with two home runs for the RedHawks, who had every player in the starting lineup pick up a hit in the sixth consecutive win for Fargo-Moorhead.

The RedHawks picked up an early lead in the first and didn’t look back after a Ryan Delgado RBI double and a two-run Ryan Stovall single gave the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.

The closest Lincoln could cut the Fargo-Moorhead lead to was two, after a Tommy Collaro home run cut the score to 4-2. The home run was Collaro’s third of the series.

Fargo-Moorhead starter Alex Caldera starter picked up the win pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Joe Harris, Kevin Fuqua, and Mike Zenko pitched in relief for the ‘Hawks giving up two more runs over the next 2 2/3 innings.

The RedHawks (21-19) put four runs on the board in eighth to put the game out of reach. Zach Penprase led the game off with a double and would be scored after Sergio Pedroza single. A Delgado single would set-up Gaston to hit a three-run home run off P.J. Zocchi, Gaston’s second of the game. Lincoln infielder Brad Payne came in to retire the final out of the eighth.

Lincoln starter Tommy Palica picked up his fourth loss of the season after just coming off the inactive list. Palica pitched five innings allowing five earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.

Collaro, Salomon Manriquez, and David Espinoza had two hits apiece for Lincoln, which dropped to 15-23 on the season.

The RedHawks continue their homestand with a three-game series starting tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m. against the St. Paul Saints. The probable starters for the June 29 game is Paul Burnside for the RedHawks and Matt Schuld for the Saints.
