Huge Bottom 9th Carries RedHawks Over Goldeyes 4-3

06/07/2014 7:53 AM -

The Fargo-Moorhead offense look lethargic for the first eight innings of tonight’s game, but the top of the order came to life in the ninth inning with three runs on four hits to post a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.  With the win, the RedHawks pulled into a three-way first place tie in the North Division with the Goldeyes and the St. Paul Saints.

Zach Penprase started the rally with a double to deep left center. Ronnie Bourquin followed with a double of his own, and Sawyer Carroll tied the game with a third double in a row. The game-winning run crossed the plate thanks to C.J. Retherford’s single, bringing in Carroll for the winning run.

The Winnipeg jumped early on the RedHawks, when Ray Sadler was able to reach on error by ‘Hawks third baseman Ronnie Bourquin. Sadler crossed home plate after Luis Alen’s single to center field, getting the Goldeyes on the scoreboard.

After the first hiccup by the Fargo-Moorhead’s defense, it was all the starting pitchers. Kyle Anderson continued his stellar pitching performances with seven innings of two-hit ballgame, allowing no RedHawks runners to touch home plate while he was on the mound. He went 7 innings with only two hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

Fargo-Moorhead’s Taylor Stanton gave the ‘Hawks a quality performance as well, going 7.1 innings pitched with only two runs (no earned), one walk and three Ks. Kevin Fuqua replaced Stanton with the RedHawks trailing 2-0, and allowed one earned run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 3-0 for Goldeyes.

The RedHawks were able to put a first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth, when Petey Paramore was able to score after error on the third baseman, followed by Brendan Lafferty’s wild pitch.

Newly-signed Wes Roemer (1-0) picked up the victory with a scoreless ninth innings.  Lafferty (0-1) took the loss for the Goldeyes, allowing four runs on four hits in 1.0 innings.

The series between the RedHawks and Goldeyes will continue tomorrow night with a 6:00 p.m. start at Newman Outdoor Field. Fans can purchase their tickets at fmredhawks.com or by calling 701-235-6161.
