Pair of Four Run Innings Doom RedHawks In 9-3 Loss

06/18/2014 11:12 PM -

The Rockland Boulders scored four runs in each the third and fifth innings to defeat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-3 in front of 3,221 fans on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.

Petey Paramore would open up the score in the bottom of the second, when he had a quality at-bat, battling away 8 pitches, and then taking Greg Terhune’s fastball over the left field fence for a solo home run.  It was his third of the season.

A loud answer from the Rockland Boulders came in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Junior Arrojo reached on error by Zach Penprase, and started a four run inning for the Boulders. Matt Nandin followed with a walk, and Antone DeJesus loaded the bases with his single. The first run for Rockland came when Arrojo scored on Ryan Stovall’s single, tying the game at 1-1. Jarod Edmondson made the ‘Hawks pay with his three-run bases-clearing double, giving the visitors 4-1 lead.

The home team managed to come up with a run of their own in bottom third. Ronnie Bourquin found a gap for a single, and stole second base. Moving over to third on C.J. Retherford’s groundout, Bourquin easily scored after Nic Jackson doubled, cutting the Rockland lead to 4-2.

In the fifth inning it was all about the Boulders again. Arrojo led things off with a single and was moved over to second by Nandin’s sacrifice bunt. DeJesus collected one RBI, bringing in Arrojo with his single. With two outs, Jerod Edmondson walked, and Steve Nyisztor got himself an RBI, plating DeJesus. The rally continued, as Joe Maloney cleaned the bases with a double to center field, giving the Boulders an 8-2 lead.

RedHawks were only able to answer with one run in the bottom ninth. Sawyer Carroll hit a solo home run to make it the final 9-3.

Taylor Stanton (0-4) suffered the loss on the mound for the RedHawks. Greg Terhune picked up the win for Rockland and moves to 1-0.  Brandon Newton went 2-for-2 and Nic Jackson was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

The RedHawks and Boulders conclude their three-game series on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.  Fans can purchase tickets at www.fmredhawks.com or at the Newman Outdoor Field Box Office.
