Retherford's Single Gives RedHawks Another Walk-Off Win

C.J. Retherford ‘s walk off single in the 11th backed up by the RedHawks’ bullpen 11th in front of 3,998 fans at the Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.

 

The Rockland Boulders were able to strike first against the home team, as Drew Bowlin struggled with control in the bottom of the second inning. He allowed a base hit, and with two outs, he walked three consecutive hitters. Steve Nyisztor, Sean O’Hare and Marcus Nidiffer all scored to make it 3-0 Rockland.

 

Zach Penprase was the only one answering in the bottom third, as he took Charlie Law’s fastball deep over the left field fence for his third home run on the year, lowering the Boulders’ lead to 3-1.

 

Rockland would add on to their lead in top of the fifth, when singling Ryan Stovall crossed the plate on Nyisztor’s RBI, making it 4-1 for the Boulders.

 

RedHawks’s bats woke up in the bottom of the fifth. Penprase got a one-out rally started with his double, and with two outs, Sawyer Caroll walked, C.J. Retherford singled and brought in Penprase (4-2 Rockland), Nic Jackson added a base hit and an RBI as well, and slumping Tim Alberts caught a break by hitting a 2 RBI single to center field, giving the ‘Hawks lead 5-4.

 

Rockland made the game go into extra innings, when Nyisztor singled, and on a well-laid bunt by Joe Maloney he moved to second, from where he scored on Marcus Niddiffer’s base hit.

 

Winning run for the RedHawks was Penprase in the bottom of 11th inning, as he singled, and red-hot Retherford brought him home on his walk-off single.

 

Kevin Fuqua got the win in relief, moving to 3-0 on the year. Alex Kreis of the Boulders took the loss and is 0-1 on the year.
