10-Run Inning Lifts RedHawks To Series Sweep

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (13-10) scored ten runs in the seventh inning and went on to sweep the Lincoln SaltDogs (10-13) in the third and final game of their series by a score of 12-11 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.

Sunday’s afternoon game started off looking like a pitcher’s duel as the score was 2-1 SaltDogs at the end of the fourth inning.  Then, the SaltDogs got some major help in the form of a three-run home run by Jon Nelson and a two-run home run by Brandon Jones.

The RedHawks entered the bottom of the seventh inning down 9-2.  After the starting pitcher, John James, struck out the first batter of the inning, the RedHawks began a magical run in which the next eleven batters reached base, and they ended up scoring ten runs on eight hits.

The SaltDogs attempted a comeback in the eighth inning, as Phil Hawke blasted a two-run home run of his own, but the RedHawks would close the door after that and finish off a series sweep.

Carlo Cota continued his success against the SaltDogs going 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.  Zach Penprase was also 3-for-5 and scored a couple of runs.  Three other RedHawk batters had multi-hit games to help the team pile up 15 total hits for the game.

Alex Kaminsky (1-1) picked up the win after coming in to relieve Zach Ward.  Paul Koss (0-2) was charged with the loss.  Adam Tollefson (2) came in with the bases loaded in the ninth.  He needed only one pitch to get the final out and the save.

The RedHawks will be going on a six-game road trip over the next week, but they will return to Newman Outdoor Field on Monday, June 13, 2011 to take on the Gary SouthShore RailCats.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
