RedHawks Fall in Rubber Match 7-2 in GaryGary SouthShore RailCats shortstop Ryan Brockett kept up his hot-hitting ways to help his team topple the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 7-3 in Sunday’s rubber game at the U.S. Steel Yard.
Brockett went 3-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and three RBI to lead the ‘Cats from the No. 9 spot in the order. The Connecticut native got hot on the road when the team went east, and kept the bat going through the first three games of the homestand.
The ‘Cats (13-10) fell behind 1-0 just two batters into the ballgame, but jumped on Redhawks’ starter Austin Kirk in their first opportunity, with two runs in the first inning and another in the second.
The middle innings bit the RailCats again, as the bats couldn’t come through in run-scoring opportunities which allowed the Redhawks (7-16) to come back and tie the game in the top of the sixth.
But the Fargo lead was short-lived, as the ‘Cats brought in two in the bottom half on a Ryan Brokett single and Jon Jones double and two more in the eighth on a Tillman Pugh triple – his second in as many games with the club – and a Brockett squeeze bunt.
Again, the South Shore ‘pen came up big as Jessie Snodgrass and Andy Loomis combined to finish off the final three innings of the ballgame.
Starting pitcher Charle Rosario earned his fourth win of the season in his second quality start. Austin Kirk took the loss for Fargo-Moorhead dropping him to 1-3 on the season.
Chad Mozingo continued to hit the ball well in the rubber game of the series. The leadoff man followed up last night's three hit performance by going 2-for-5 with two runs scored today. Zach Penprase went 2-for-4 with one run driven in, and Joe Staley had himself quite the day as well. The man behind the plate went 3-for-4 in his only start of the series.
The Sioux Falls Canaries come to town for a four game set starting tomorrow night. After them, the Winnipeg Goldeyes come to Newman Outdoor Field for a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday, June 19th.
