RedHawks Can't Conjure Enough Offense in 4-2 Loss at St. PaulST. PAUL, MN – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, but couldn’t produce any more offense than that and fell 4-2 to the St. Paul Saints in front of 9,393 fans at CHS Field. Zach Penprase got the scoring started for the RedHawks, as he lifted his second homer of the season over the fence in left field giving Fargo-Moorhead a 1-0 lead. The Hawks weren’t done in the opening frame. Chad Mozingo walked after the Penprase homer, and Joe Dunigan ripped a single to left two batters later scoring Mozingo making it 2-0. Saints’ starter Kramer Sneed would settle down after the first inning. In fact, there was a point from the third inning through the seventh where he had sat down 12-of-13 RedHawks he faced. Sneed allowed just two runs on six hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. Brandon Mann started on the hill for Fargo-Moorhead and mowed down Saints left and right. Mann came into Friday night’s game tied for 4th in the American Association in total strikeouts with 44, and he would add ten to that total. Mann only trails Sioux City’s Patrick Johnson (57 strikeouts) for the league’s “K” King. Mann went seven innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with three walks and ten strikeouts. He gave up two home runs to the game, including a first inning leadoff home run from Alonzo Harris cutting the RedHawks early lead in half on one pitch. Mann’s other homer came at the hands of Ian Gac, who belted his 6th home run of the season over the fence in left field. The Saints would add runs in the third off a Vinny DiFazio RBI single scoring Anthony Phillips, and again in the third off a Mike Kvasnicka single plating DiFazio. The RedHawks had a chance in the eighth and the ninth. In the eighth, Drew Muren was stranded on third, and in the ninth Frazier Hall was about 10 feet from tying the game. Joe Staley clubbed a one-out double into the alley in left bringing up Mike Schultz. Manager Doug Simunic opted to pinch hit third-baseman Frazier Hall. Hall sent one to the deepest part of CHS Field, in right-center, but center fielder Alonzo Harris settled under it on the warning track. Brandon Mann (1-4, 4.83 ERA) takes the loss for the RedHawks while Kramer Sneed (7-1, 2.20 ERA) picks up his American Association leading seventh win of the season. Mike Zouzalik also picked up his first save of the season. Fargo-Moorhead drops to 11-30 on the season while St. Paul improves to 32-8. The two teams will return tomorrow night for game two of the series, with the RedHawks featuring Tyler Herron, and the Saints countering with Jeff Shields.
