Joe and Joe Go Deep, Saints Prevail 3-2 in Series Rubber MatchST. PAUL, MN - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks dropped their fourth one-run decision of this past six-game road trip, falling to the St. Paul Saints by a 3-2 final on Sunday evening at CHS Field in front of 7,511 fans. The Saints started former big leaguer Pedro Hernandez on the mound. Hernandez, most recently with the Colorado Rockies in 2014, started 12 games for the Minnesota Twins in 2013. However, it was Fargo-Moorhead who jumped out to an early lead. Joe Dunigan, who hit two home runs in the season opener in St. Paul, belted an opposite field solo homer to left in the second giving the RedHawks the 1-0 advantage. Joe Staley was stranded on second after following up the Dunigan moon shot with a double. That would prove costly in a close game, as Staley was one of only six RedHawks left on base. The Saints would answer in the bottom half of the second. Dan Kaczrowski walked first with one out, followed by a Mitch Elliot tapper that Alexander fielded on the left side of the mound, but his throw to first sailed into foul territory past the outstretched glove of Joe Bonfe allowing the runners to reach second and third. Alonzo Harris hit a sac fly that would tie the game at one. Anthony Phillips reached on an infield single and Willie Argo would later give the Saints the 2-1 lead on an RBI single poked into right field. Alexander would settle down after the second. He would face the minimum in the both the third and fourth frames, and retired the first batter of the fifth before the Saints got to the lefty again. With two outs in the fifth, Alexander first hit Ian Gac on a payoff pitch. He then walked Angelo Songco, and Mike Kvasnicka would reach on a fielding error from Zach Penprase. Alexander would strike out former RedHawks Ronnie Bourquin, however, for the third out. Alexander faced bases loaded jams in both the first and fifth and got out of them unscathed. Alexander gave up a leadoff single to Kaczrowski in the sixth and would give way to Benji Waite ending his night. The lefty went five innings total, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts. Kaczrowski would advance to second and third via a sacrifice hit from Mitch Elliot and an Alonzo Harris single before scoring on an Anthony Phillips sac fly to right. Kaczrowski’s run belonged to Alexander and closed the book on his line. Waite would force Willie Argo to ground out to short ending the threat. Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, Joe answered the bell again. This time, it was Joe Staley answering the call. With one out, Joe Staley took a 2-2 offering into the berms in left field cutting the deficit in half making it 3-2 St. Paul in the seventh. The RedHawks only base runner in the last two innings was Joe Bonfe, who reached on a walk in the eighth inning. Ryan Rodebaugh came on and earned his ninth save of the season in the top of the ninth giving St. Paul the 3-2 victory. Alexander (0-1) takes the loss for Fargo-Moorhead while Saints’ starter Pedro Hernandez (5-2) walked away with the win. The RedHawks drop to 12-31 while St. Paul improves to 33-9 and wins it’s 13th series of the season. The RedHawks return home to Newman Outdoor Field on Monday to begin a seven game home stand. The Winnipeg Goldeyes come to town for a four game set, followed by the Ottawa Champions of the Canadian-American League, who come to Fargo-Moorhead for a three game weekend set starting on Friday. Taylor Stanton is set to take the mound in game one with the Goldeyes tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m. Game Date: 07/05/2015 Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 2 AT St Paul Saints 3
