FARGO, ND (8/18/17) --- Excellence is expected when Tyler Alexander takes the mound for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Alexander met those expectations yet again Friday night in a 1-0 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes, striking out double digit batters for the fourth consecutive game.
The RedHawks scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth with some much needed production from the bottom of the lineup. With two outs the eight hitter, Yhoxian Medina doubled and scored in the next at bat on a Brandon Tierney single.
Alexander didn’t outlast Kevin McGovern who pitched all eight innings for the Goldeyes but he did outduel him, pitching seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 and allowing just five hits and three walks before turning it over to the pen.
Trey McNutt stepped in to pitch two scoreless innings. Things got interesting in the ninth when Wes Darvill advanced to third base with just one out but McNutt came through, striking out Casey Turgeon for the second out and getting Andrew Sohn to pop out to second for the game’s final out.
What’s Next?: The series continues tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.
