CLEBURNE WINS GAME 3![]() Wednesday, 5/23 Despite clawing back from a four-run deficit, the RedHawks couldn’t get the win on Wednesday afternoon in Cleburne as the Railroaders scored twice in the seventh inning to seal a 10-8 win. Fargo-Moorhead is now 3-3 after its Texas swing and will return to Newman Outdoor Field for the home opener on Friday night against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Tommy Mendonca led the Hawks in the hitting department, going four for five with a three-run home run in the first inning. Charlie Valerio hit his third home run of the year in the fourth inning. Valerio leads the American Association with three home runs this season.
Jose Almarante started the game for the RedHawks, going 2.1 innings and giving up seven runs. Travis Ballew was credited with the loss after pitching in the fifth and sixth innings.
Tuesday, 5/22 Cleburne scored four runs in the seventh inning on Tuesday night and added the game-winner in the eighth on its way to a 6-5 win over the RedHawks in Texas. The loss is the first ever for Fargo-Moorhead against the Railroaders.
The RedHawks got another solid start from the pitching staff tonight as Sebastian Kessay went six innings and gave up only one run. Kessay struck out 10 and walked none in his first start of the year.
Maikol Gonzalez led the Hawks on the batting side, hitting safely in three of his five at bats. Gonzalez also scored two runs for Fargo-Moorhead. Charlie Valerio hit his second home run of the year in the sixth inning.
With the loss, the RedHawks are 3-2 and sit one game behind St. Paul in the North Division standings.
The RedHawks wrap up their series with the Railroaders tomorrow afternoon at 11:05 PM in Cleburne. Fargo-Moorhead returns to Newman Outdoor Field on Friday for the home opener against the Lincoln Saltdogs. First pitch for the home opener is scheduled for 7:02 PM.
Monday, 5/21 The RedHawks plated a run in the top of the 11th inning to defeat Cleburne and former Major Leaguer Rafael Palmeiro 4-3 on Monday night.
A Brennan Metzger triple in the 11th inning brought home Maikol Gonzalez, and Randy McCurry shut the door for the RedHawks with a stellar pitching performance in the bottom half of the 11th to seal the win.
Trey McNutt pitched seven strong innings for the RedHawks, giving up three runs and three hits while striking out 11 batters in his first start of the year. McNutt was a reliever last season for Fargo-Moorhead. Travis Ballew was credited with the win after pitching the ninth and 10th inning for the RedHawks. The newcomer, McCurry, got the save.
Devan Ahart and Randolph Oduber each had a pair of hits for Fargo-Moorhead to lead the team. Keury De La Cruz was held hitless for the first time this season. De La Cruz leads the RedHawks with a .438 batting average through four games.
Rafael Palmeiro, who spent 20 years in Major League Baseball, hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for his first hit of the season. The 53-year-old is playing for the Railroaders this season as a part of his comeback bid for a spot in the majors.
With the win, Fargo moves to 3-1 to start the year. The RedHawks will face off with Cleburne on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning to Fargo for the home opener on Friday night at 7:02 PM against the Lincoln Saltdogs. |
