PRIME HITS TWO HOMERS IN WIN OVER SALTDOGSFARGO, N.D. — Correlle Prime hit two home runs to pace the RedHawks Friday night as they defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-5 in front of 2,885 fans at Newman Outdoor Field. Fargo-Moorhead’s run total went into double digits for the second night in a row as the Hawks rode a strong pitching performance from starter Sebastian Kessay to a victory in the opener of a two-game series against Lincoln.
Leo Pina extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the second inning that gave the RedHawks a 1-0 lead when Correlle Prime came around to score on an error by the Lincoln third baseman. Pina is three games away from matching Sioux Falls’ Alay Lago for the longest hitting streak of the season at 19 games. The Bellefonte, Penn. native came around to score later in the inning on a Yhoxian Medina double, putting Fargo-Moorhead up 2-0.
Correlle Prime extended the Hawks’ lead to three in the sixth inning with his eleventh home run of the year over the right field wall. F-M extended the lead even further in the seventh with an RBI single from Tim Colwell and a wild pitch that allowed Yhoxian Medina to score from third and Tim Colwell to show off his speed and score all the way from second. Correlle Prime capped off the inning with his second home run of the game, driving in Chris Jacobs and himself to make the score 8-0 Hawks heading into the eighth.
The Saltdogs showed they weren’t completely toothless by notching four runs in the top of the eighth. Tyler Moore and Forrestt Allday each had 2 RBI singles in the inning to get the Saltdogs within four runs. The RedHawks responded by adding two runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Brennan Metzger and a Tim Colwell RBI single. Lincoln tried to mount a comeback in the ninth inning but only managed to score a single run. Reliever Joe Filomeno shut the door on the Saltdogs’ comeback bid with a strong outing in the ninth to finish the game.
RedHawks’ starting pitcher Sebastian Kessay (7-0) picked up his seventh win of the season tonight in an impressive six innings of work, allowing no runs on three hits and recording six strikeouts.
Fargo-Moorhead will close out its series with Lincoln and its nine-game homestand on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. RHP Ryan Williams is the scheduled starter for the RedHawks. Lincoln’s starter is TBD. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. |
