HAWKS > CATSFARGO, ND — Coming off a dominant fourteen strikeout performance against Milwaukee, Michael Tamburino turned in six strong innings of work tonight as the RedHawks pitching staff combined to shut out Gary and give Fargo-Moorhead their eighth consecutive victory with a 6-0 win over the RailCats at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks’ offense picked up right where it left off in last night’s ninth inning, scoring two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. Fargo-Moorhead tacked on their last two runs in the sixth inning via a Correlle Prime solo home run — his 16th of the season — to left center field and a later error by Gary’s left fielder that allowed Leo Pina score from second base.
Tamburino would finish his six innings of work with no runs against on five hits, three strikeouts, and two walks. Sebastian Kessay made his first appearance out of the bullpen this season three days after his start against Sioux Falls. He retired all three Railcats he faced. Joe Filomeno and Brent Jones also did what they do best, combining to strike out five of the eight Gary batters they faced.
With St. Paul and Chicago both winning tonight, Fargo-Moorhead (58-29) remains four games ahead of the Saints (54-33) and six and a half games ahead of the Dogs (51-35) for first place in the AA North Division. The RedHawks have 13 games remaining in the regular season.
Fargo-Moorhead will finish off its series with Gary SouthShore on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field before heading to Milwaukee for a three-game series against the Milkmen starting on Wednesday. First pitch for tomorrow night’s contest is set for 7:02 p.m. LHP Tyler Pike (8-2) is scheduled to pitch for the RedHawks against Gary RHP Nile Ball (1-1).
