BOSCAN & KRAUSE BAT IN 10 RUNS AS HAWKS DEMOLISH APOLLOS

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (50-35) reached the 50-win mark with a 15-1 win over the Houston Apollos (13-71) in front of 3,332 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night. Manuel Boscan (5-for-6, five runs scored, four RBIs) and Kevin Krause (4-for-4, two runs scored, six RBIs) combined to drive in 10 of the RedHawks’ runs and each had a home run in the win.

The RedHawks continued to ride the long ball this homestand, as four different batters — Boscan (6), Krause (12), Leobaldo Pina (15), and John Silviano (21) — each had a home run in the win. Fargo-Moorhead has hit 12 home runs over the last three games, five of which were hit by Silviano (1-for-2, two walks, two runs scored in Friday’s game). Boscan’s five runs scored was the highest single-game total for a RedHawk this season.

RHP Bret Helton (6-8) got the win after allowing only one run on five hits and two walks in six innings pitched. Helton’s only run allowed came in the first inning and he went on to strike out six batters in the game. LHP Tyler Grauer came into the game in the seventh inning and pitched two hitless innings, allowing only one walk while striking out three batters. RHP Austin Ver Steeg pitched in the ninth inning and faced the minimum, striking out two batters.

The Apollos opened the scoring in the top of the first, but the RedHawks offense piled it on after that. Fargo-Moorhead scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second to take a six-run lead. The ‘Hawks piled on eight more runs over the middle four innings to take their ultimate 15-1 lead.

Fargo-Moorhead continued its offensive juggernaut on Friday and has now outscored its opponents by a 44-7 margin over the last three games. The RedHawks have scored runs in 18 of the last 24 innings during that span.

Houston right-handed starter Sam Wells (0-2) got the loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits and two walks through 3.1 innings pitched. Wells got the loss and was replaced by RHP Derrick Sylve in the fourth inning. Sylve gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in 1.2 innings pitched. The Apollos then turned to RHP Alex MacKinnon, who pitched a scoreless inning, allowing only a hit and a walk while striking out a batter. In the seventh inning, RHP Martin Alcoverde gave up four runs on four hits, including three home runs. RHP Collins Robinson finished the game in the eighth inning, allowing only one hit in an inning pitched.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Houston Apollos will continue their series with a 6:00 p.m. game at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night. LHP Matt Tomshaw (2-0, 0.69 ERA) will start for the RedHawks and face RHP Matt Cronin (3-8, 6.00 ERA).
