The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed veteran OF Nic Jackson to a contract for the 2009 season, the Northern League club announced today. Jackson will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on May 1 at Newman Outdoor Field.
Jackson, 29, comes to Fargo-Moorhead after playing in 2008 with the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League. He batted .333 with 36 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs, 66 RBIs and 90 runs scored in 107 games. Jackson stole 20 bases and posted a .401 on-base percentage and .549 slugging percentage for Camden.
Jackson was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2000 draft out of the University of Richmond (VA). In his career, Jackson has batted .286 with 140 doubles, 36 triples, 66 home runs, 336 RBIs, 372 runs scored and 129 stolen bases in 624 games. Jackson first reached the Triple-A level with the Cubs in 2004 but missed all of 2005 and most of 2006 with injury. He was a teammate of current RedHawks C Alan Rick in 2006 with Daytona of the Florida State League (A) as he tried to work his way back from his injuries.
“Nic is a great addition to our ballclub,” said RedHawks manager Doug Simunic. “He put up great numbers last year in Camden and should be a big presence in our batting order and our outfield.”
