The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks used a record day at the plate to rout the Winnipeg Goldeyes 16-1 and take the weekend series against their Northern League rival. The 16 runs and 21 hits the RedHawks put on the scoreboard are both season highs.
Fargo-Moorhead (31-18) scored in each of the first six innings and notched two or more runs in five of those frames.
Along with all of the offensive fireworks, the RedHawks got an impressive effort from starting pitcher Scott Fogelson (5-2). The southpaw tossed seven innings, allowing only one run on three hits. He walked two Goldeye hitters and fanned five, giving him the Northern League lead in strikeouts with 58 on the season.
Winnipeg (26-27) starter Chris Salamida (6-4) was hit hard early, giving up nine runs on seven hits in just two innings of work while striking out three. He also had trouble finding the strike zone, issuing six walks.
Mike Coles, Zach Penprase, Jesse Hoorelbeke and Alan Rick all had three hits for the RedHawks, with Penprase, Hoorelbeke and Rick each collecting two RBI apiece. Nic Jackson and Eric Campbell also each drove in a pair of runs for Fargo-Moorhead. Hoorelbeke hit his league-leading 18th home run of the season while Campbell also smacked a round-tripper.
Price Kendall was 1-for-4 for the Goldeyes and drove in the lone run in the ballgame for Winnpeg.
The Goldeyes will head back up I-29 to host Lake County while the RedHawks will welcome Gary to Newman Outdoor Field starting tomorrow.
