The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have agreed to terms with OF Mike Coles for the 2011 season and have signed RHP Joe Klein, the American Association club announced. Both players will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on April 30.
Coles, 28, batted .312 with 27 doubles, three home runs, 45 RBI and 78 runs scored in 99 games for the RedHawks in 2010. He stole 25 bases and posted a .375 on-base percentage in helping the RedHawks to a second consecutive Northern League Championship. Coles finished second in the league in hits (131) and at-bats (420), fourth in stolen bases and games and fifth in doubles.
Coles is entering his third season with the RedHawks and sixth as a professional baseball player. In his career, he has batted .312 with 108 doubles, 11 triples, 29 home runs, 250 RBI and 321 runs scored in 439 games. He has stolen 120 bases and has a career on-base percentage of .382.
Klein, 23, joins the RedHawks after playing the last two years with the El Paso Diablos of the American Association. Klein appeared in seven games last years and was 0-0 with a 6.35 ERA. In 2009, he was 4-6 with a 5.05 ERA in 29 games for El Paso.
