The Explorers exploded for 17 hits in a 13-1 win over Fargo/Moorhead Sunday before a sellout crowd of nearly 4,500 at Lewis and Clark Park.
Explorers starter Nick Schumacher had a no-hitter broken up with one-out in the sixth inning on a single by Mike Coles. Schumacher recorded a season high 11 strikeouts in picking up his fourth win of the season. It was a quick start for the X's as they sent ten batters to the plate in the first inning scoring six runs against the RedHawks. The Explorers added three more runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, two in the fifth inning and the final run in the seventh. Fargo/Moorhead avoided a shutout by scoring a run in the ninth inning.
In the 17 hits, all were singles except a two-run home run by T.J. Bohn in the third inning and three doubles in the contest by the Explorers. Brett Flowers led the Explorers with four hits and four RBI's. It was the second straight win for Sioux City over Fargo/Moorhead as the RedHawks lost their sixth straight game.
The third game of the four-game series will be played Monday at 7:05 with fireworks scheduled after the game.
