RedHawks Trade for Nichols, Sign Jay Cox![]() REDHAWKS MAKE SERIES OF MOVES
F-M Trades for Kyle Nichols, Brings Back Jay Cox
FARGO, N.D. – Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have made a series of moves prior to tonight’s game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks have acquired DH Kyle Nichols from the El Paso Diablos for DH/1B Jim Fasano, RHP Alex Kaminsky and two players to be named later, signed OF Jay Cox and released OF Jason James.
Nichols batted .325 with 19 doubles, ten home runs, 53 RBI and 42 runs scored in 49 games for El Paso this season. Nichols’ 53 RBI currently rank fourth overall in the American Association.
Nichols was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as a non-drafted free agent out of Erskine College in 2001. He advanced to the Triple-A level with the D-backs in 2004. He spent the 2010 season with El Paso and batted .305 with 22 doubles, 14 home runs and 66 RBI in 76 games.
Cox hit .296 with 30 doubles, one triple, ten home runs, 58 RBI and 53 runs scored in 95 games for Fargo-Moorhead in 2010. Cox tied with teammate Nic Jackson for the Northern League lead in doubles last season and was one of the offensive leaders of last season’s league champions.
Prior to joining the RedHawks, Cox played four seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization after being drafted out of the University of North Carolina in 2006. In four seasons in the Rockies chain, Cox batted .271 with 95 doubles, 18 triples, 29 home runs, 192 RBI and 197 runs score in 374 games.
James batted .263 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI in 51 games for Fargo-Moorhead this year. |
