The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks dropped the series finale to the St. Paul Saints 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,075 fans at Midway Stadium.
Jake Schmidt kicked off the great pitching for the St. Paul Saints, throwing a strong 5.2 innings giving up two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out four batters as he got his sixth of the season. Schmidt was very solid and when he ran into a bases loaded, nobody out jam in the second inning with the Saints up two runs, he retired the next three guys on two pop outs and a line out without allowing a run.
Then it was time for the Saints bullpen to shine as newcomer Julio DePaula, Jesse English and Tyler Walker threw the last 3.1 innings without allowing a run or a hit. Three pitchers with Major League experience locked down the game for the Saints, as DePaula tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, only walking two guys. English then threw a perfect eighth with a strikeout and Tyler Walked did the same in the ninth for the Saints to win the three games series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
The offense for the Saints did their part, as Ole Sheldon got the scoring going in the first inning with a two out, two-run home run to make it 2-0 Saints.
Up 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, the Saints tacked on three more runs with an RBI double from Ryan Patterson, a bases loaded walk to Jason Cooper, and a sacrifice fly from Ronnie Bourquin to cap the scoring.
