The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed INF Ron Bourquin to a contract, the club announced.
Bourquin, 27, has played the past two seasons with the St. Paul Saints. In 2012, he batted .284 with 28 doubles, 11 home runs, 53 RBIs and 56 runs scored for the Saints. He played 67 games at third base, where he posted a .960 fielding percentage and only committed seven errors. He also appeared in 32 games at first base. In 2011, Bourquin batted .300 with 26 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 51 RBIs and 59 runs scored in 90 games for St. Paul.
Bourquin began his professional career in 2006 after being selected by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the draft out of Ohio State University. He spent five years in the Tigers system, reaching the Double-A level, before signing with the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League in 2010.
In three independent seasons with Schaumburg and St. Paul, Bourquin has batted .296 with 68 doubles, 28 home runs, 128 RBIs and 151 runs scored in 244 games. He is a career .274 hitter in 647 games.
“Ron is a solid left-handed hitter and fielder who we think can thrive at Newman Outdoor Field,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “We are excited to add him to our line-up and see what he can do.”
