The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed INF Derek Dormanen and C/DH Tony Richards to contracts, the club announced today. Both will be in uniform tonight when the RedHawks open a three-game series against the Joliet JackHammers at Newman Outdoor Field.
Dormanen, 28, previously played for the RedHawks from 2003-2006 after a stellar career at Concordia College in Moorhead. He appeared in 178 games for the RedHawks over four seasons and batted .222 (70-for-316) with eight doubles, one triple, 24 RBIs and 54 runs scored. Dormanen also saw time on the mound for Fargo-Moorhead, going 4-3 with a 4.58 ERA in 38 games. The consummate utility player, Dormanen appeared in games at every position except center field in his four-year career.
Richards, 33, previously suited up for the RedHawks during the 1999 season. He appeared in 14 games and batted .220 (9-for-41) with a triple, four RBIs and four runs scored. Richards was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 18th round of the 1998 draft out of North Dakota State University, but never appeared in a game with the Dodgers organization due to injuries. He has been playing amateur baseball in the Twin Cities for the Minnetonka Millers for the past 11 years.
