Piepkorn Comes up Clutch as RedHawks Overcome Saints, 10-9![]() FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks earned a 10-9 victory over the St. Paul Saints with a dramatic walk-off single from Jeremiah Piepkorn in front of a crowd of 3,450 at Newman Outdoor Field Tuesday. Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (47-28) left eight runners on base – four runners left on third – before entering the ninth inning trailing 9-8. Nic Jackson started the final frame with a leadoff walk and put himself into scoring position with a stolen base. After a C.J. Retherford flyout that advanced Jackson to third, Keith Brachold hit a RBI single to score Jackson and knotted the game at nine. Tim Alberts followed with a double to put runners on second and third with one out. Piepkorn stepped up to the plate, looking to play hero for the second time in four games. Piepkorn hit a deep shot to left field, far enough to sail over the left fielder’s head for a single, which gave the RedHawks their fourth walk-off win in the last two weeks. “The key is to keep the game close,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “It was a great game for us, glad we were able to come through and pull this one off.” Both teams had an active night at the plate, with 11 hits apiece. Every batter gained a hit for the St. Paul Saints (37-37) with Brandon Tripp and Dan Kaczrowski each achieving a multi-hit game. Fargo-Moorhead’s Brachold had a strong night, going 4-for-5 with three runs and RBIs. Alberts had three extra-base hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. RedHawks starter Jake Laber went four-plus innings giving up seven runs on eight hits, before giving way to Mackenzie King. Going five innings, King (3-1) gained the win by giving up just two runs on three hits in relief. The Saints’ starter Billy Soule went 1 2/3 innings after giving up eight runs on six hits before St. Paul turned to the bullpen. Matt Meyer gave up two runs on one hit to take the loss after the Saints bullpen held the RedHawks lineup scoreless for seven innings. The series continues between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and St. Paul Saints Wednesday at 7:02 p.m. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
