RedHawks Score Early, Drop Joliet 10-4![]() The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored nine runs in the first three innings and defeated the Joliet JackHammer’s 10-4 in front of 4,160 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday afternoon. RedHawks RHP T.J. Stanton (1-0) made his first start with Fargo-Moorhead and pitched five scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season. JackHammer’s starter RHP Jason Richardson (1-7) suffers his seventh loss of the season.
RedHawks RF Mike Coles doubled to dead-center to leadoff the home half of the first inning. With 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn at the plate, Coles and Penprase double stole second and third and scored on LF Justin Justice’s two-out double to put the RedHawks on the board 2-0.
In the second inning, RedHawks C Alan Rick doubled to the gap in left-center and DH Scott Koerber was hit by a pitch. With one out and runners at first and second, Coles cracked a single to score Rick from second and make it 3-0 for the home team. CF Nic Jackson hit his league-leading 15th double to pick up an RBI and cap the RedHawks two-run inning.
In the third inning, Justice drew a walk and reached third on a passed ball and a stolen base. Richardson issued back-to-back walks to Rick and C Tony Richards. With one out and the bases loaded, Coles came through in the clutch with a bases-clearing double and Penprase hit a two-run big fly to cap the RedHawks five-run third inning.
The JackHammer’s got on the board in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run home run by 3B Andrew Pinckney, his team-leading tenth of the season. RF Wally Backman Jr. hit the JackHammer’s second two-run home run of the game and the JackHammer’s crept within six.
The RedHawks play the JackHammer’s in the rubber match game at Newman Outdoor Field tomorrow. The RedHawks will send LHP Broc Coffman to the mound and the JackHammer’s starting pitcher has yet to be announced. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
