The Atlanta Braves have purchased the contract of Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 1B Erik Castro and assigned him to the Mississippi Braves of the Southern League (Double-A). Castro is the 63rd player sold to a Major League organization in RedHawks history.
Castro batted .319 with eight double, one home run, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored in 30 games since joining the RedHawks in early July. He posted a .374 on-base percentage and drew ten walks against just 14 strikeouts.
Castro joined Fargo-Moorhead after being released by the Houston Astros organization this summer from their Triple-A affiliate the Oklahoma RedHawks. He spent three-plus seasons in the Astros organization after being selected in the tenth round of the 2009 draft by Houston out of San Diego State University.
The RedHawks open their nine-game interleague road trip against Can-Am League teams tonight with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch against the Quebec Capitales. Fans can tune in to 740 AM The Fan for Scott Miller’s call, or watch the video stream on-line at www.fmredhawks.com.
