Rally Falls Short to St. Paul in 5-2 Loss![]() FARGO, ND – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks ninth inning rally fell short and they dropped game three with the St. Paul Saints 5-2 in front of 3,882 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night.
The Saints struck first in the second. Angelo Songco began with a leadoff walk, and Joe Paciorek followed suit two batters later. Songco would score on an Anthony Phillips single up the middle, and then Dan Kaczrowski stepped to the dish. Kaczrowski belted a three run homer over the fence in left field giving St. Paul a 4-1 lead. The rain came midway through the third. After an hour and seven minute rain delay, play resumed in the home half of the third. St. Paul starter Kramer Sneed showed signs of rust coming out of the delay. Frank Salerno began the frame with a leadoff walk followed by a Charlie Valerio single. Chad Mozingo would proceed to take a base on balls loading the bases. Joe Dunigan took a payoff pitch low and away giving him an RBI on Sneed's third walk of the inning. Sneed would strike out the next two ending the threat for Fargo-Moorhead. Brandon Mann was the starter on the hill for the RedHawks, and the wily veteran produced another solid start. The Saints got to Mann before the rain delay, but after that they only touched him one more time. Mike Kvasnicka would leadoff the eighth inning with a single to left ending Mann's night, but the lefty went seven innings allowing five runs on six hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts. Fargo-Moorhead appeared to have a rally going in the bottom of the ninth. Joe Bonfe lead off for the RedHawks with a towering fly ball that bounced off the top of the wall in left-cendter and stayed in the park. Bonfe would wheel his way to third sliding in for a stand-up triple and would advance home on a throwing error making it 5-2. The Saints brought in the league leader in saves, Ryan Rodebaugh, to close things out after the Bonfe triple. Rodebaugh walked Frank Salerno, but got Valerio on a called strike three and forced Chad Mozingo to ground into the game ending fielder's choice. The RedHawks fall to 10-26 while the St. Paul improves to 28-7. The two teams will finish up their four game series tomorrow at 1 p.m with Tyler Herron set to start for the RedHawks. The team will take Monday off before traveling to Gary for a three game series and will remain on the road hitting St. Paul for a weekend series starting next Friday before returning to Fargo-Moorhead.Game Date: 06/27/2015
