The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed C Alan Rick to a contract for the 2009 season, the Northern League club announced. Rick will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on May 1 at Newman Outdoor Field.
Rick, 25, was named the Northern League All-Star catcher in 2008 after hitting .267 with 14 doubles, 15 home runs, 51 RBIs and 64 runs scored in 88 games for Fargo-Moorhead. He walked 61 times, sturck out 76 times and posted a .395 on-base percentage and .459 slugging percentage. Rick’s walk total was third best in the league in 2008.
Rick appeared in 67 games at catcher, posting a .989 fielding percentage. He threw out nearly 30 percent of would-be base-stealers and had just five errors and three past balls.
“Alan did a good job for us behind the plate last year,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “We have traditionally been strong behind the plate and he continued in that tradition. He was solid offensively and defensively and we are glad to have him back in 2009.”
