FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks continue to build the roster for the 2016 season, as the team re-signed INF Ryan Pineda.
Pineda, 26, returns for this third stint with the RedHawks. He was acquired by Fargo-Moorhead from the Sussex County Miners of the Can-Am League last July and batted .272 with nine doubles, two home runs, 20 RBI and 31 runs scored in 46 games for the RedHawks in 2015. Pineda also stole seven bases. In 48 games with Sussex County, he batted .249 with 13 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 26 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
Pineda first signed with Fargo-Moorhead in 2013 and batted .351 with two doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored in 11 games before being traded to the Grand Prairie AirHogs in late May. He played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in 2014. Pineda began his professional career in 2010 with the Oakland Athletics before after being selected in the 28th round of the 2010 draft out of Cal State-Northridge. In six professional seasons, he has batted .260 with 105 doubles, nine triples, 24 RBIs, 198 RBIs and 247 runs scored in 473 games.
“Ryan is a solid all-around player who helped us turn around out season last year,” said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. “He did a good job at second base last year, is a good contributor at the plate and can get around the bases.”
Pineda is currently preparing to represent the Philippines in the upcoming World Baseball Classic Qualifying Round in Sydney, Australia from February 11-14.
