Big Bats Spark another Late Game Victory for AirHogsOn Monday night the AirHogs earned a 6-5 walk-off win over the RedHawks to start the series in Texas. Wednesday the game wasn’t a walk-off, but blasting three home runs in the eighth inning of their 4-3 victory provides the same amount of excitement. The RedHawks created late game energy too, scoring two runs in the ninth to cut the lead to one. However the comeback fell just short as Texas closer Alan Oaks struck a batter out for the third out with a man left on first and earned his second save of the season. For all of the action in the eighth and ninth innings, the first seven were relatively quiet. The only scoring came in the second inning when Josh Mazolla scored on an on RBI by Kes Carter for the RedHawks. They stranded runners on the corners to end the inning and couldn’t generate anymore offense for the next six innings. The bottom of the eighth started with a strikeout, but then the bats for the AirHogs got hot. Brian Bistagne got it going with a solo shot to tie the game at 1-1. Michael Hur later reached base on an error and that would come back to bite the RedHawks as Juan Sanchez blasted another home run for the home team. Burt Reynolds continued his scorching start to the season by crushing his third home run in seven games to stretch the lead to 4-1. In the ninth the RedHawks made a valiant attempt at taking the lead back. Luke Bailey kicked things off by getting involved in the home run party with a solo shot of his own. Carter followed him by hitting a triple to keep pressure on Oaks. He later scored on a fielder’s choice with K.D. Kang getting the RBI. With the score at 4-3 and with two outs, Cory Morales hit a single to keep the road team’s hopes alive. However, Oaks struck out the subsequent batter to close the game. Carlos Misell (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the AirHogs and Colton Reavis (0-1) took the loss. Both teams have a day off Thursday then each start new series on Friday. Texas (4-3) will host the Laredo Lemurs at AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas, at 7:30 p.m. The RedHawks (3-4) will have their home opener against the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:02 p.m. at Neman Outdoor Stadium in Fargo, North Dakota. |
