Alexander & Carter Shine In Big Win for 'Hawks
In a crucial bounceback game at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday, Fargo-Moorhead displayed how good of a team they can be when all components are clicking. They beat the team at the top of the American Association standings, the St. Paul Saints, by a score of 8-1.
It started on the mound for the home team, with Tyler Alexander dominating the game. Yielding only three hits and no walks, he kept the Saints off the basepaths. The southpaw also struck out 10 on the night to take sole possession of the league lead with 71 on the season. The only offense he allowed was a solo home run in the fourth by Angelo Songco.
Offensively the team had a number of solid contributors, but Kes Carter shined. Continuing his hot play, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs, and a home run. The barrage started in the first when Brian Humphries crushed a hit to the wall which brought in Ryan Pineda and Josh Mazzola. Carter kicked off his great night in the second when he reached on a single, advanced on a balk, and scored thanks to an RBI by K.D. Kang. The next inning had Carter piling on with a two-run homer to score Humphries as well and give them a 5-0 lead after three.
Songco's answer trimmed the score to 5-1. The 'Hawks then were silent until the seventh, with Carter driving in Mazzola for his third RBI of the night. Bryan Johns hit a single to score Dustin Geiger, and Carter later came in for his third run to stretch the lead all the way to 8-1. Alexander continued to command the game and it was smooth sailing on defense as well with zero errors.
Alexander moves to 7-3 as the RedHawks are now 25-22. Dan Johnson (0-1) loses in his debut and the Saints stand at 33-16. Game three of this Northern Division series will be at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, at Newman Outdoor Field.
