Going 12 straight games with a hit is a rare feat, hitting above .500 in that span is even more impressive. Dustin Geiger continued to be a great offensive boost for the RedHawks on Saturday, helping them to beat the RailCats 7-2 at home.
The league leader in strikeouts, Tyler Alexander, was the starter for the home team. Having only five strikeouts is a down night for him, but he still shut down the GS batters. Allowing just one run and seven hits in seven innings. The run he allowed came in the first when Chase Harris drove in Cameron Newell, but he was rock-solid for the rest of the night.
The home team did make quite an answer to that first inning run with three of their own. They all came from Geiger's bases clearing double which scored Kes Carter, Keury De La Cruz, and Josh Mazzola. In the fourth Geiger was huge again with a solo home run way over the left field fence to push the lead to 4-1.
Three more came in the sixth when Geiger ripped another double and he and K.D. Kang came in on Charlie Valerio's single. Mike Gilmartin then hit a ball way out to center for a sacrifice fly which scored Brian Humphries. The road team did get a run back in the eighth with Reggie Wilson scoring on a wild pitch, but that obviously wasn't enough to erase the deficit.
Alexander is now 10-3 on the season and with the loss Travis McGee moves to 3-8. The series finale will be played Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field, slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
