Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers stay in first place, getting the 6-1 victory over Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday night. The Explorers are now 44-38 on the season (tied for first in the Central Division).
Sioux City recorded the first run in the second inning. With a runner at first and one out, Tommy Mendonca ripped an RBI double to score the runner at first base and take the 1-0 lead.
The Explorers jumped to a 5-0 lead, plating two runs in the third and fifth innings. X’s centerfielder Tim Colwell knocked in three runs, scoring two in the third with a single, and one in the fifth with an RBI single. The final run was scored on an error by the left-fielder, giving Sioux City the 5-0 lead after five innings.
Fargo-Moorhead recorded their first run in the top of the sixth. Ryan Pineda kept the inning alive with a two out double, allowing him to score on a base-hit single by Keury De La Cruz on the next at-bat.
Sioux City answered with a run of their own in the sixth inning, giving them the 6-1 lead, which would be the final score of the game.
Explorers starter Bryan Escanio (5-3) had a solid outing on the mound, receiving the victory for the X’s. The right-hander went 7.1 innings with only one run allowed while striking out seven on the night.
RedHawks right-hander (4-5) was charged with the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) in only five innings pitched.
