FARGO, ND – Mitch Delfino delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to a 6-5 victory over the St. Paul Saints on Monday night in exhibition play at Newman Outdoor Field.
Fargo-Moorhead entered the ninth inning down 5-4, but three consecutive singles from Ryan Pineda, K.D. Kang and Josh Mazzola tied up the game. With two outs, Delfino drove an opposite-field single to right to score Pineda for the win.
RedHawks starter Jose Almarante was sharp, as he pitched 3.1 innings scoreless innings. He struck out five Saints and allowed three hits. Casey Weathers pitched a scoreless ninth inning, with a pair of strikeouts, to pick up the win. Eric Veglahn took the loss for St. Paul.
The Saints and RedHawks continue the exhibition slate with an 11:00 a.m. game Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field.
