KESSAY SHUTS OUT ST. PAUL![]() FARGO, N.D. — The RedHawks survived a pitcher’s duel against the St. Paul Saints on Tuesday night to scratch out a 6-0 win and extend the team’s winning streak. The five-game winning stretch matches the team’s season high.
Sebastian Kessay outdueled St. Paul’s Chris Nunn over six shutout innings on the mound tonight. Kessay struck out seven and walked none while giving up just three hits to earn his fourth win of the season.
The Hawks broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single from Brennan Metzger in the fifth inning before adding five more over the next three innings to open up a six-run lead.
An RBI double from Yhoxian Medina and a 2-RBI single from Tim Colwell made it a 4-0 RedHawks lead after six frames before Keury De La Cruz knocked in a run each in the seventh and eighth innings to bring the home team to the verge of a fifth consecutive victory.
Randy McCurry came on to close out the game after Geoff Broussard pitched two scoreless innings in relief and the Oklahoma State product faced one more than the minimum and forced a fly out to right field to close out the win.
With the win, the RedHawks jump to 39-28 for the year and finish 19-9 for the month of July. Fargo-Moorhead remains one game behind Gary SouthShore in the North Division, but the RedHawks opened a two and a half game gap between themselves and St. Paul for second place with the win tonight.
The Hawks will go for the series win tomorrow night in the third of four games against the Saints. Brandon Barker will get the start for Fargo-Moorhead against St. Paul’s Trevor Foss. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 PM. |
