DOGS EVEN SERIES WITH EXTRA-INNINGS WINThe Chicago Dogs (36-18) evened the series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (37-17) by a score of 4-3 in ten innings on Friday night. Chicago trailed for most of the game, when right fielder Anfernee Grier tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the 8th inning. The RedHawks had 10 hits and drew four walks in the win but left nine on base and hit into two double plays in the loss. The scoring started right away as both teams scored in the first inning. Left fielder Steve Wilkerson hit an RBI single to drive in Grant Kay to score in the game's first run. Fargo-Moorhead scored two runs, one of which was unearned, in the bottom of the inning to take the lead right back. The two teams continued the back-and-forth action in the third and fourth innings, as Wilkerson drove in his second RBI of the game on a groundout to drive in Dogs catcher Ryan Lidge to tie the game at two all. Fargo-Moorhead scored the next inning on a Sam Dexter RBI double. Dexter was the only RedHawks batter to register an RBI in the loss, as the other two runs were a result of a fielder's choice and an error respectively. After the fourth inning the pitcher’s started to take control of the game. Fargo-Moorhead starter Kevin McGovern allowed just two runs on seven hits and struck out nine batters in six innings pitched. Chicago starter Shane Barringer allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks in 4.2 innings pitched. Neither starter earned a decision in the game. The RedHawks used four relief pitchers in the game; Luke Lind, Joe Jones, Tanner Riley, and Brady Stover (1-2). Dogs’ relievers Joe Cavallaro, Tanner Lawson, and Brian Schlitter (3-0) pitched a combined 4.1 scoreless innings in the win. Jones allowed the game-tying run in the eighth inning on two hits and a walk but struck out the side to keep the game scoreless. Stover pitched in the top of the tenth inning and allowed the game-winning run after allowing two walks and a wild pitch. The run was unearned as catcher Christian Correa attempted to throw out a base runner after the wild pitch but threw the ball away. Fargo-Moorhead was unable to score a run in the bottom of the inning despite getting the bases-loaded. Schlitter allowed two hits and a walk but induced a game-ending double play to get out of the jam and earn the win. Fargo-Moorhead and Chicago will continue their series with a game tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. Tyler Grauer (6-2, 3.03 ERA) will start for the RedHawks in game three and face Kyle Murphy (4-1, 5.25 ERA).
