The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Lake County Fielders 13-7 in Northern League action on Tuesday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. Fargo-Moorhead improved to 4-1 overall, while Lake County dropped to 1-5.
Lake County scored four times in the seventh inning off of RedHawks reliever Jeremy Hauer, including a towering three-run home run over the scoreboard by left fielder Joshua Short.
Fargo-Moorhead’s Jesse Hoorelbeke and Jay Cox hit back-to-back home runs with two outs in the home half of the seventh inning off of Lake County right hander Marco Gonzales. Hoorelbeke was 3-for-5 on the day with 3 RBI. Cox drove in three runs and was 2-for-3 at the plate. Carlo Cota also homered for the RedHawks.
Fargo-Moorhead was held scoreless in the eighth inning by Lake County designated hitter Jeff Dunbar, who came in to finish out the game.
Fargo native Jake Laber (1-0) got the win for the RedHawks, allowing three runs on six hits in five innings of work. Fielders’ starter John Brownell (0-1) took the loss.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7:02pm in the third game of a four game set. Former RedHawk Garry Bakker will get the nod for Lake County while Chad Rhoades will make his second start of the season for Fargo-Moorhead.
