The Schaumburg Flyers (24-41) were no match for Jake Laber (7-2) on Sunday afternoon, as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (38-24) took the series finale 5-1 at Alexian Field.
For the first time this weekend, Fargo-Moorhead did not launch a home run, but found other ways to score. Mike Coles kicked things off with a single to begin the game, then scored after Tom Fitzgerald let a grounder slip through the wickets.
The Flyers tied the game in the fourth when Ron Bourquin doubled in Joey Gomes, but that was the extent of Schaumburg’s offense.
Laber was dominant and tossed 125 pitches to beat the Flyers. The lefty struck out eight and walked one, while giving up just four hits.
The RedHawks put the game away with four runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Eric Campbell, Coles, and Jay Cox all picked up RBIs for Fargo-Moorhead.
Alain Quijano (2-7) took the loss for the Flyers, despite allowing just one earned run in 4.1 frames.
In the second and sixth innings, the RedHawks pulled off double steals. Both involved Carlo Cota and Kole Zimmerman.
