The Rockford RiverHawks pounded out 15 runs on 18 hits en route to a 15-4 thrashing of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field. The win gave Rockford a sweep in the weekend series between the two teams.
Rockford (34-37) was able to jump on Fargo-Moorhead starter T.J. Stanton (4-4) early, knocking the righty out of the game with one out in the third inning. Stanton allowed six runs on six hits while striking out two. He also struggled with his control, walking five.
The RiverHawks scored in six different innings and pushed across four runs in both the third and seventh frames. Jason James and Kevin House hit back-to-back home runs off RedHawks reliever Jeremy Hauer in the top of the seventh.
Rockford starter Roger Lincoln (5-6) tossed 5.1 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just three runs. He also struck out four and did not issue a free pass.
Six different RiverHawks had at least two hits in the ballgame. Former RedHawk Richard Austin drove in three runs for Rockford.
Fargo-Moorhead (40-29) first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke hit his 23rd and 24th home runs of the season. Moorhead native Jake Krause also went 4-for-4 at the plate for the RedHawks.
Rockford will return home to host Joliet while Fargo-Moorhead will welcome the Northern League-leading Kansas City T-Bones to Newman Outdoor Field in a pivotal four-game series starting tomorrow.
