The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have sold the contract of RHP Donnie Smith to the San Francisco Giants organizaiton, the Northern League club announced. Smith, who recently completed his first season with the RedHawks in 2008, will report to Spring Training with the Giants in March.
Smith, a fourth round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004, just completed his fifth year in pro ball, his first with the RedHawks. This season, he compiled a 3-1 record while appearing in 42 games. He also picked-up seven saves, tossing 48 innings while striking out 48 and walking 25, holding opposing hitters to a .246 average (.229 vs RHH).
The 25 year old pitched collegiately at Old Dominion University where he compiled a 6-2 record in 86.1 innings, striking out 99 while walking only 25 during the 2004 season. He pitched as both a starter and reliever that season prior to being drafted and starting his professional career at New Jersey (NYP League).
