It wasn’t that the Winnipeg Goldeyes couldn’t get hits. It was the timely hits that were lacking Friday night.
Winnipeg hit into a Northern League record seven double plays and were dumped 3-0 by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before a large crowd of 6,824 at Canwest Park.
Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida was brilliant on the mound, but Fargo finally got to him in the sixth inning when Eric Campbell hit a line drive two-run home run.
An inning later, Alan Rick scored from third on a wild pitch from Ian Thomas.
Salamida struck out a season-high 12 batters, while walking just one. It’s the most strikeouts by a Goldeyes pitcher in a single game this season.
Fargo starter Jake Laber pitched seven shutout innings to get the win.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in a doubleheader, which begins at 6 p.m. Two seven-inning games will be played.
