The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks made a pair of moves on Tuesday, signing RHP Alex Caldera to a contract and trading RHP Griffin Bailey to the Fort Worth Cats. Caldera will be in uniform tonight as Fargo-Moorhead continues a three-game series against the St. Paul Saints at Newman Outdoor Field.
Caldera, 25, appeared in three games (two starts) in April for the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League (A) after being traded from the Kansas City Royals organization to the Washington Nationals organization in Spring Training.
Caldera spend four season in the Royals farm system from 2007-2010. Last year, he was 6-4 with a 3.25 in 13 games (12 starts) for the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League before he was promoted to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Texas League (AA). With the Naturals, Caldera was 3-2 with a 5.12 ERA in eight games (seven starts). Between the two stops, Caldera pitched 113.1 innings and allowed 53 runs (49 earned) on 113 hits. He recorded 99 strikeouts and walked just 38 batters.
Bailey, who was traded for a player to be named later, was 0-1 with a 13.43 ERA in two games for Fargo-Moorhead this year.
