The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks recorded a second straight shutout as the club defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 10-0 on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, IN. The RedHawks improved to 4-6 with the victory.
Fargo exploded for six runs in the fifth inning collecting six hits, four of which went for extra bases. RedHawks pitcher Adam Tollefson, in the lineup tonight as the designated hitter, started the inning with a single and catcher Phil Britton capped off the frame with a towering three run homer to left field. The RedHawks added three more in the eighth thanks to three consecutive doubles after a ‘Cats error.
The ‘Cats struggled at the plate yet again scratching together just one hit and managing only six baserunners off Fargo starter Scott Fogelson. Before the rains came, Fogelson held the RailCats scoreless over his six innings of work adding five strikeouts with four walks and a hit batter.
Mike Massaro had the lone single for the “Cats off Fogelson in the third and shortstop Brian Kolb sliced a double down the right field line in the seventh for the only hits of the ballgame for the home team. Right-hander Jack Frawley took the loss for the RailCats after allowing five runs on ten hits in his five innings of work. Southpaw Jeremy Hauer contributed a strong two innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and adding a strikeout.
