Relievers Shut Down Saints in 6-3 Victory![]() FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (35-49) scored early and had strong relief pitching in their 6-3 victory over the St. Paul Saints (48-36) on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND. A total of 4,706 fans came out to Newman Outdoor Field to honor the armed forces on Military Appreciation Night and to watch the RedHawks win their second consecutive game against their old rival, the St. Paul Saints. That combination led to the sixth sell out of the season and a crowd that urged their team to victory.
The RedHawks didn’t disappoint as they picked up right where they left off last night, scoring three runs in the first inning. The first five batters all reached base as a mix of sharply hit singles and walks produced an early 3-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Zach Penprase in the second inning stretched the advantage to 4-0.
St. Paul responded by putting up a three-run inning of its own in the third inning. Three straight walks to start the inning created a bases loaded jam with no outs and the heart of the Saints’ order coming up to the plate. Aharon Eggleston and Ole Sheldon got the Saints back in the game with a pair of singles that made the score 4-3, but Joe Harris, who entered the game to face Sheldon, was able to escape the inning after that and keep the RedHawks on top.
Back-to-back doubles by Nic Jackson and Jesse Hoorelbeke in the fourth inning gave Jake Krause a run scored against his former team and the home team 6-3 lead they would hold onto for the rest of the game.
Harris (3-4) tied the team’s season long for a relief outing at 5.1 innings. He kept the Saints scoreless over that stretch while giving up only four hits and striking out six batters. Harris’ performance earned him his third win of the year. Alberto Rolon (8-4) took the loss for St. Paul. Rolon gave up five runs (all earned) and six hits over his 3.1 innings of work. Kevin Fuqua got three straight outs in the ninth inning for his third save of the year.
Jackson and Carlo Cota were both 2-for-4 on the night. Jackson had two runs scored and two runs batted in as well. Steve Mays went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Saints.
The RedHawks will go for a series sweep against the St. Paul Saints on Sunday night. Game time is 6:00 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
