RedHawks Get Offensive, Slam Goldeyes 14-2![]() The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the first time this season 14-2 in front of 3,388 fans at Newman Outdoor Field Wednesday night. The RedHawks improve to 13-16 and the Goldeyes fall to 21-8.
RedHawks starter LHP Broc Coffman (5-2) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up two runs (all earned) for his league-leading fifth win of the season. Goldeyes starter RHP Andrew Cruse (2-2) suffered the loss.
RedHawks RF Jeremiah Piepkorn got things going in the home half of the second inning with a right-field flare. RedHawks C Alan Rick cracked a broken-bat single and SS Zach Penprase plated Piepkorn and Rick with a double down the right-field line to give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning RedHawks CF Nic Jackson hit a two-out double down the left-field line. 3B Yurendell DeCaster singled to left-field to score Jackson from second and make it 3-0. With deuces wild Piepkorn hit a three-run big fly to cap the RedHawks four-run third inning.
Leading off the RedHawks fourth was C Kole Zimmerman who singled through the left-side, but was thrown out at third on Penprase’s single up-the-middle. LF Mike Coles and Jackson hit a pair of RBI doubles down the right-field line to cap the RedHawks two-run fourth.
The Goldeyes got on the board in the top of the fifth inning off 2B Josh Asanovich’s RBI double off-the-wall. With one out and men at the corners Goldeyes SS Wes Long singled through the left-side to score Asanovich from third and make it 8-2.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning Rick rocketed a two-run home-run to right field to make it 10-2 for the home team. The RedHawks benefited from an error and a wild pitch before 2B Carlo Cota hit the sixth double of the game to make it 12-2 RedHawks. Piepkorn hit his second home run of the game to give the RedHawks a 14-2 game-lasting lead in the home half of the sixth inning.
The RedHawks play the Goldeyes in the rubber match game at Newman Outdoor Field tomorrow night. The RedHawks will send RHP Garry Bakker to the mound and RHP Ace Walker will toe the rubber for the Goldeyes.
