RedHawks Sweep Gary With 14-5 Win![]() Piepkorn was 4-for-5 in Thursday's game The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, powered by a nine-run fourth inning, swept the Gary SouthShore RailCats 14-5 in front of 4,180 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Thursday afternoon.
RedHawks starter RHP Garry Bakker (3-2) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up four runs (all earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk to earn his third win of the season. RailCats starter RHP Grant Johnson (2-5) suffers the loss.
RailCats SS Jay Pecci hit a first inning single and scored on a two-out double by 1B Steve Haake to put the RailCats on the board 1-0.
Leading off the RedHawks first was RF Mike Coles who worked a walk and reached third on a double to dead center by CF Nic Jackson. With one out and runners at second and third, 1B Randall Simon hit a single to left to score Coles and Jackson and make it 2-1 for the home team.
RailCats CF Rob Marconi cued the ball and legged out an infield single to lead off the top of the third inning. With no outs and a runner at first, LF Mike Massaro drew a walk and the RailCats tied it at two on a sac bunt from 2B Eric McNamee and sac fly from Pecci.
RailCats RF Jordan Czarniecki hit a right-field flare to leadoff the top of the fourth inning. Czarniecki reached third on a single up-the-middle by 3B Mike Rohde and scored on a sac fly by C Brett Wallace to make it 3-2 RailCats.
The RedHawks batted around in the home half of the fourth inning. C Alan Rick drew a walk and scored on 2B Carlo Cota’s double to the left-field gap. RedHawks LF Justin Justice, Rick and Jackson all lofted a pair of singles. Piepkorn hit a bloop single and Cota capped the RedHawks nine-run fourth inning with a three-run big fly. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Rick roped a two-run home run to give the RedHawks the 13-3 lead.
The RedHawks begin a six-game road trip that kicks off with three games against the first-place Winnipeg Goldeyes tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. LHP Scott Fogelson is schedule to pitch for the RedHawks, while Winnipeg is expected to counter with RHP Mark Michael.
