The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks roster continues to grow, as the team has signed C/1B Jon Talley to a contract.
Talley, 24, joins the RedHawks after spending the past seven seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Talley had an injury-shortened 2013 season and split time between the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League (High-A) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League (Double-A). In 43 games between the two teams, he batted .180 with 12 doubles, three home runs, 19 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Talleys best season came in 2011, when he batted .241 with 21 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 68 RBIs and 55 runs scored in 102 games with Dunedin. He was selected to play in the Florida State League All-Star Game that season.
Talley was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 13th round of the 2007 draft out of Carlsbad (CA) High School. In 480 career games in the Toronto organization, he has hit .242 with 101 doubles, four triples, 48 home runs and 253 RBIs.
Jon is an intriguing player who has shown good left-handed pop who can play catcher and first base, said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. He had a tough summer last year dealing with an injury, but hes young, healthy and we think he can get himself back on track in 2014.
