RedHawks Win One, Lose One to Lincoln![]()
FARGO, ND – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (17-10) earned a 5-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs (12-14) in the conclusion of a suspended game, but fell 6-4 in seven innings int he regularly scheduled game at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo on Thursday night.
In the suspended game, the RedHawks entered play today down 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fargo-Moorhead scored first in the game, which was delayed on Wednesday night by over an hour, on an RBI single from Nic Jackson that plated Ronnie Bourquin.
Lincoln responded in the top of the second inning, getting a pair of runs off RedHawks start Drew Bowlin on a double from Chris Anderson. The teams played into the fourth inning before heavy rain ended play on Wednesday night.
In the bottom of the fourth inning on Thursday evening, Anthony Kaskadden tied the game for the RedHawks with an RBI single that scored Tim Alberts. In the fifth inning, C.J. Retherford gave the RedHawks a 4-2 lead with a two-run opposite field home run. Retherford would later score what proved to be the game-winning run with on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
Fargo-Moorhead reliever Justin Erasmus (2-0) earned the win with 2.0 inning of scoreless relief. Nate Garcia, despite giving up a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning, earned his ninth save of the season. Lincoln reliever T.J. Bozeman (1-2) took the loss.
In the scheduled game, the Saltdogs broke open a 1-1 tie with a four-run fifth inning. Run-scoring singles from Chad Mozingo and Luis Nunez put Lincoln up 3-1, and Matt Forgatch cashed in a two-run single to make it 5-1. The RedHawks and Saltdogs swapped single runs in the bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth inning to make it 6-2. The RedHawks made it interesting in the sixth with a pair of runs to make it 6-4, but left the bases loaded.
Lincoln starter Marquis Fleming (3-2) earned the victory for Lincoln, while RedHawks starter Taylor Stanton (0-3) was tagged with the loss. Lincoln closer Marshall Schuler earned the save, his sixth of the season, with a scoreless seventh inning.
The RedHawks will open a three-game road series against the Sioux Falls Canaries on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Saturday’s game will also be played at 7:05 p.m. and the series will end with a 4:05 p.m. game on Sunday. Fargo-Moorhead returns home on Tuesday to start a three-game interleague series against the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League. Game times are 7:02 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. It’s the first Business Day Game of the summer. |
