FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have transferred the contract of designated hitter/infielder Drew Ward to the Detroit Tigers.
In his first season with the RedHawks, Ward finished with a .335 AVG, 14 doubles, 17 home runs, 45 RBIs and 42 runs scored in 58 games.
Drew was tied for first place with teammate Correlle Prime for the American Association (AA) lead in batting average (.335). He was named the AA Player of the Week for July 13-19, 2020 and was named to the 2020 AA All-Star Team.
The Leedy Okla. native was drafted out of high school by theWashington Nationalsin the3rd roundof the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft and has played the past seven seasons in the Nationals farm system. Ward, 25, played in eight games during spring training for Washington in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the MLB and cancelled the MiLB seasons.
Ward becomes the 82nd RedHawks player since 1996 to have his contract sold to a Major League Baseball organization. He joins Matt Tomshaw as the second RedHawks player to sign with an MLB club in 2021.
